2016 · soloist ensemble of baritone, bass clarinet, and trumpet with string orchestra

Duration: 12'

Vocal

Play: Tarantism

Tarantism was composed for Loadbang and the String Orchestra of Brooklyn. Text drawn from 16th and 17th-century neoplatonic scholarly texts describing musical cures for tarantula bites — an ancient Italian practice rooted in the tarantella dance. The work explores music as a magical, curative force. The soloist ensemble represents the musician/doctor while the string orchestra represents the afflicted.
