Scuffed Computer Improviser

The Scuffed Computer Improviser (SCI) is an audio-corpus-based computer improviser developed by Taylor Brook from 2020 to the present in MAX.

A session with the SCI unfolds in two stages. It first learns how to improvise by listening to and analyzing the human musician, and then may enter a performance stage where it plays interactively as an improvising partner.

The SCI is rough around the edges. Its imperfection and fuzziness are a feature of the software rather than a flaw to be smoothed away — the system is designed to push me while I improvise, the way a partner would.
